Nabtesco Corporation (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Kazumasa Kimura) has obtained type approval of cybersecurity* for our marine engine remote control system (M-800 series)  in February 2025 from DNV, the world’s leading classification society and recognized advisor. Nabtesco is the first domestic marine vessel equipment manufacturer to obtain the type approval of cybersecurity from DNV

In recent years, the marine vessel industry has been developing ships with advanced control technologies, including autonomous vessels. On the other hand, cyber-attacks targeting vessels have frequently occurred, and the importance of cybersecurity measures in Marine Vessels Equipment has increased. Therefore, IACS(International Association of Classification Societies), which establishes rules and regulations for vessels, established security requirements to reduce the risk of cyber-attacks on marine vessels contracted to be built after July 2024 (*1) (*2) as class rules.

Our marine engine remote control system remotely controls the main engine and main propeller of a vessel from a ship bridge or control room. Preparation for cyber risk is an essential requirement to enhance the safety of navigation. For this reason, we have taken cybersecurity measures that meet the rules of the Classification Society and obtain the first type approval of cybersecurity for domestic marine vessel equipment manufacturer from DNV.

We will continue to obtain type approval of cybersecurity from other Classification Societies in various countries to contribute to the safe navigation of marine vessels.
