Nabtesco Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazumasa Kimura), Marine Control Systems Company, has completed the installation of its new ship speed and horsepower control system “TELEGRAPH AGENT™” on the 300,000-ton class tanker (VLCC) TSUGARU, operated by NYK Line, and has now commenced onboard verification. Through this verification, we aim to determine the optimal settings for VLCCs, contributing to improved fuel efficiency and the reduction of GHG emissions.

In addition, “Pythia,” an optimal route and vessel speed planning solution utilizing AI developed by our subsidiary DeepSea Technologies, is scheduled to be installed on a trial basis. “Pythia” can propose the optimal vessel speed during ocean voyages by taking weather and sea conditions into account. By simply inputting the optimal speed proposed by “Pythia” into the “TELEGRAPH AGENT™,” the vessel can easily maintain the optimal speed. Combining these two systems could improve operational efficiency, reduce crew workload and fuel consumption.

Going forward, we will continue to address social challenges such as reducing crew workload, improving fuel efficiency, and reducing GHG emissions, while promoting further automation and operational efficiency in the maritime industry.
